Ultra Electronics has extensive experience in high integrity instrumentation and control systems covering:

  • Neutron Flux Detection
  • Reactor control and protection systems

Ultra Electronics holds class leading exceptional expertise in the development and integration of safety-critical solutions to both the commercial and military markets.

Neutron Flux Instrumentation

We developed a complete range of neutron flux instruments for monitoring and protection applications in the nuclear industry. All of the instruments have been developed using a modular approach which provides a high degree of flexibility for configuration changes to meet specific customer requirements.

The range includes:

  • Pulse Counting
  • Campbell Processing
  • Log DC and Linear DC measurements

They are designed to operate in nuclear power plant environments, complying with stringent electromagnetic compatibility standards. Fail-safe circuit architectures employing conservatively rated analogue components are used to achieve the high levels of safety and reliability demanded by the target safety critical applications. They have undergone extensive qualification and have been operating very effectively for many years with full regulatory approval. This operational experience makes the instruments well suited for new installations and upgrades.

Reactor Control and Protection

Our class leading expertise in the development and integration of safety-critical solutions to the commercial and military nuclear markets.

We take the time to listen and understand the customer’s need, constraints and concerns (for example financial, resource, project timescales, regulatory).  As a result we develop system requirements which accurately reflect the customer’s needs.

We are able to provide timely, cost-effective and tailored solutions due to meet those needs using:

  • 60+ years of know-how in delivering high integrity safety systems (analogue, digital and software)
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of nuclear standards and guidelines (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61513, IEEE 603, IAEA)
  • Experience in working the most demanding of regulatory environments (e.g. US, UK, France)
